Why join the Mapping Masculinity Group?

Are you tired of feeling like you're just going through the motions, hiding behind the mask of what a man is supposed to be? It's time to break free from the chains of this simplistic masculinity and discover your true potential with the Mapping Masculinity Group.

Let's be honest – life can be tough, and as men, we're often taught to suck it up, suppress our emotions, and carry on. But what if I told you there's a better way? A way to embrace your vulnerabilities, confront your past hurts, and live authentically as the man you were meant to be? And even that, the people that love you in your life want you to do just that!

Welcome to the Mapping Masculinity Group – a therapy group designed exclusively for men like you who are ready to do something different, to stop stuffing down their difficult emotions and start embracing the journey of self-discovery.

Here, we're not just scratching the surface of what it means to be a man – we're diving deep into the intricacies of masculinity, challenging traditional norms, and redefining what it means to be strong.

In this safe and supportive space, you'll find camaraderie among like-minded individuals who are on the same quest for authenticity and emotional well-being as you are. No judgment, no shame.

But this isn't just a place to talk about your feelings – although that's certainly part of it. It's also a place to learn new skills, share your experiences, engage in open discussions, and gain valuable insights from compassionate professionals and fellow group members who have been where you are and come out the other side.

FAQ

You May Be Wondering…

  • Group therapy involves a small, curated group of individuals meeting regularly, guided by a therapist, to explore shared experiences, offer mutual support, and work towards personal growth and healing. Some therapy groups are online due to convenience for our community, while others may be offered in person at our Horn Counseling office in Nashville, Tennessee.

  • While individual therapy focuses on one-on-one sessions with a therapist, group therapy involves a therapist leading a group of individuals with similar concerns or goals. Group sessions allow for interaction, support, collective insights, and learning from others’ experiences.

  • Group sizes can vary but usually range from 3 to 5 participants. This size fosters closeness and diversity while allowing everyone to engage and contribute to the sessions actively. At Horn Counseling, some of our therapy groups are offered both in-person at our location in Nashville, Tennessee, and online for ease and convenience of meeting everyone where they are in life.

  • Sessions often involve check-ins, discussions, exercises, and sharing experiences. The therapist guides the conversation, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate and benefit from the session.

  • Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of group therapy. Participants are expected to maintain the confidentiality of others in the group, fostering a safe and trusting environment. At Horn Counseling, we go by “what is said here, stays here.” This means that we honor the space of sharing and keeping things within the group.

  • Our therapy groups are led by experienced therapists with training in group dynamics and various therapeutic techniques to ensure a supportive and productive environment.

  • Typically, group therapy sessions occur weekly or bi-weekly, allowing for consistent engagement and progress. The frequency may vary based on the specific group’s needs, and sometimes breaks are built into the schedule, such as if and when a group lands on a major holiday.

  • Yes, joining a therapy group can complement individual therapy. It offers a different dynamic, additional support, and diverse perspectives to aid your overall therapy journey. Therapy groups are often a lower fee per session, so it can be a lower cost option to add to your self care in addition to individual therapy. If you’re looking for an individual therapist, please contact us so we can assess your needs and work on matching you with one of our therapists or a therapist in your area who is a good fit for your therapy goals.

  • Group therapy might be beneficial if you seek peer support, enjoy collaborative learning, and feel comfortable sharing experiences in a group setting. It can be especially helpful if you relate to others’ experiences or find value in collective growth. If you are hesitant about a group setting, set up a free 15-minute consultation below so we can help ease your concerns and clear up any misunderstandings you may have about group therapy so that you can make an informed decision about moving forward with the process.
